I've recently finished my first novel
and am actively seeking a literary agent and publisher.
Writing
your first book can
be quite a battle. Wrestling free a cohesive manuscript from the
ether is a challenge for anyone
and some nights this book was a monster, a clawed and gnarled dream-thing
that nudged me awake each night for months and begged me to come
out and play. I grappled with this horned phantom- so calmly referred
to as a manuscript- for too long, most often in the wee hours of
the morning; sometimes with good results and sometimes with bad...a
broken lamp, several bruised eyes and more scratches than I had
Band-Aids to cover. Despite the carnage, something besides blood
and tears
was spilled from me and splashed upon the bright pages. Occasionally,
coherent sentences arrived, shiny and defiant, with their chins
set squarely and fists thrust firmly into the face of the beast.
They
stood proudly… sometimes briefly… some were crushed: mashed between
the Monster's teeth and carried away, kicking and screaming, back
into the shadows. I can only hope that a few remain, but I know,
the Monster hates to lose. My solution is to thrust its lashing
tail and snapping jaws in your direction. I must publish to quiet
the
beast. So be careful- it will be out in your world soon.
You may
ask why I would unleash this holy terror upon you, an unsuspecting
traveler
on the web. Perhaps I felt it necessary
to claim vengeance for a horrible wrong you’ve committed in your
life. It’s possible. No one’s perfect. Then again, it could be
that my own body, mind and bladder have begun to quiver and fail
in the
constant glowing red gaze of the speckled beast. Quite probably
true…
However,
I believe at the heart of the matter the truth is really very
simple. When you fight a Monster, it helps to bring
a friend. If I am to have this demon tearing through my head
and wreaking havoc on my sleep patterns, why not you? Hmm?
Who knows?
Maybe in its scaly, tangled pages you’ll
be able to find something you can enjoy, a bit of humor,
some suspense, maybe even a little hope thrown in for good
measure.
Nonetheless,
when you read it in the future, travel carefully, and if
you hear something breathing over your shoulder or if you
should
happen
upon the bloody remains of one of those brave and shiny sentences
that
went down screaming… just a hint…
Get out of there.
